Before theLOGUE debut

Sunday, February 22, 2004

After I finished this website, I decide to move all the logues (as in normal name 'blog') to here from the original BLOGGER. However, I don't have enough time to sort every post to appropriate categories yet. Some of them will go to Pandora's Box and most of them stay open to public. You can see part of the my posts before Feburary 01, 2004 on theLOGUE.com already.

One Week After...

It was about the same time last week, I made my weekly call to mom and started the normal five minutes conversation. It quickly upsetted me as soon as Mom began to tell the same old theory and successful life stories. I responded with impolite impatience and requested Mom to treat me more like an adult and respect my understanding of the society and life. However, deep inside, I knew i am avoiding issues and all I did was to try not to let them scrutinize my life no matter how much I do want them to get close to me.

After so many years of drifting away unwillingly, Mom called for my return. She complained that I don't tell them anything happening and all she can do is to guess what's going on here in the States and worry about whatever I did not confide to them. Her voice cracked as she spoke and her tear brought me back at that moment and make me realized again how much she missed me and cared about me. I miss them too. I am such a sucker in telling them how I feel. In addition to the burden I have on the back for so many years, I couldn't contain myself any more. In a period of one minute, Mom kept crying out to let me tell her and I kept saying I would tell her if I am ready. Mom is always a brave women and she has been the one who hold our family together and take all the responsibility she can or cannot afford on her own. The hardship in her life has made her so strong and she vowed she was ready for whatever I wanted to say to her... So I did it, without any delicate planning and worrying about the consequences. There goes the truth...

Anti-Spam in commenting system

Tuesday, February 17, 2004

After seeing some websites, there are more and more people getting spamming in the comment section of the log. I'd better add this protection earliear than later. The great thing about the plugin MT-Blacklist doesn't need any modification to the template.

Happy Valentine's Day

Saturday, February 14, 2004

rose.jpgHappy Valentine's Day! I finally watched "Big Fish" and " Les Triplettes de Belleville" ("The Triplets of Belleville"). Big Fish is about a small town guy with a huge heart. It's another make-believe film (similar to In America in some ways) and how to live a life to the full. Les Triplettes de Belleville is nominated for Oscar including Best Animation and Best Original Song. A grandma and the triplets in Belleville overcame numerous dangerous situations to save the grandson kidnapped during Tour de France. Fantastic animation and soundtrack. The Belleville is a mixture of multiculture. Some Paris, some New York, and some other places I didn't recognize. The detailed animation has both retro and modern feel. So unique and different from typical hollywood films.

ReviewLOGUE updated

Thursday, February 12, 2004

I redid the templates for ReviewLOGUE. At the sametime, the BookLOGUE will be an individual section. All the changes are reflected in the main menu.

I originally adopted the rating methods done by Martin Sutherland, he did a great job, but I didn't like the redundancy of his code. I changed the whole mechanism to rate books and eliminated the usage of MTKEY plugin. At the sametime, instead of using categories such as "book rating 5, book rating 4...", I use only one category "book" and assign the rating to MTEXCERPT. This greatly reduces the work needed to setup the rating system. I will take sometime later to write a tutorial.

Letting Yourself be

This is the quote from What Should I Do with My Life (page 22) by Po Bronson, " Embracing your fears means letting yourself be sad when you're sad, and so the massage is not supposed to make the customer feel better, it's supposed to make the customer feel sad/pain/fear... I think it's like sad music, which can be wonderful to listen to, and bring about a nice zone of melancholy in which you stop pushing yourself to be perfect."

I write down this quote is because it's very similar to the 2003 year end summary I wrote on the new year's eve. :)

The Logue Official Debut

After a few days work, I finally finished the main work on the structure of the site. With the days passing by, more content will be added. Just as the name of the site suggested, I LOGUE (log) things happening in my life, films that touched me deeply, music I enjoy and much more.

How do I get the name "theLogue.com"? Well, since it's mainly a blog which is the abbreviation of "weblog" which is the abbreviation of "web log", it's more appropriate to call it "the LOG(UE)" than anything else. I have been struggling coming up with the actual domain name for a while. It all happened one early morning around 2 o'clock when I were reading the book called "What should I do with my life" by Po Bronson (check the bookhistory section). When I laid my eyes on the word "Travelogue" in one story, I suddenly realized that's the idea I was looking for... A logue can not only record travel experiences, it can also logue life in every aspect such as thoughts, writing and other stuff. I was so excited that I finally find one domain name I like, and LOVE more importantly.

"When I laid my eyes on the word "Travelogue" in one story, I suddenly realized that's the idea I was looking for... "

Now, about the Chinese characters in the banner. You might be wondering what those one white and one crimson chinese words mean. Here is the story. The first white character is pronounced as /lu/ and means "to record". It's THE perfect word to be used in the banner in the way it sounds like "logue" and carries the actual meaning of "logue". The crimson character is pronounced as /lu/ too and means "1.a path; a road; 2.a journey; 3.a way; a means". The logue will record my journey down the road. So when you put the two word together, "Lu Lu" means "record journey".

Till now, you get the whole picture of the website. I will keep it updated. Come back to visit me soon. :)

Pictures from Mount San Jacinto

Friday, February 6, 2004

Mount_San_JacintoThis is a picture I took in my last trip to California. I use this blog entry to test the format of the picture position.

I will spend sometime later to put more pictures from the trip to photologue section. BTW, We were trapped on top of the San Jacinto due to malfuntion of the 360 degree rotating tram. This rarely happen according to locals. Fortunatly we didn't spend 4 hours hanging in the middle of the air being scared to death, and even worse no restroom to go to... Although it's a long wait, it's still better than some other places for sure. It's a great trip overall. The first time in California and I loved it!

Integrate Gallery with Movabletype

In this wiki site, Ryan Dlugosz give a detailed intruction on How to integrate Gallery into Movabletype Publishing system. I spent a few hours to mess around with the CSS and finally got it to work with my exisiting template. Great work, Ryan.
